The Wilds

Only fools, brave souls, or Free Folk venture into The Wilds. It is home to the most dangerous creatures, plants, and landscapes in the entire realm. It is mostly a barren and desolate area of the world, covered by tundra and the Torpor Wastes. Here lies the edges of the known world, where any maps of this unclaimed territory are rudimentary at best.

Nothing can survive for long in this grayscale wasteland. Hardly anything grows save for the edges around the Terrormor Sea, which is the birthplace of Leviathans. There is an ancient legend that tells of an ungodly and immensely gigantic titan named only as the Jaws of Extinction, was born out of that part of the world, and when it rose up, the waters from all the oceans swelled to fill it.

Somewhere beneath the tundra and taiga of The Wilds, perhaps in the east, near the region known as the Torpor Wastes, lies a supposed vast underground kingdom of the Giants. Some say earthquakes are partially due to their movement beneath.

Background

Basic info and history about the unclaimed territory inhabited by the Free Folk, Giants, and various creatures of untold danger.

The Wilder Heights

A place where people of established provinces have tried and failed to make settlements. Only the Free Folk truly know how to live here and elsewhere in The Wilds.

Torpor Wastes

There are many who believe that the geothermal activity in the lowlands of the Torpor Wastes, especially near Lys Toarnav, is remnants of the hot foul breath of the slain Morterrandath whose skull became the mountains in that area of the region.

Though no creatures live inside the hot springs, one can still find life in the area. Tiny flies and mites come about in warmer months. Large mammals such as bison, elk, bear, mammoth, and sabretooth visit in the winter to walk on warm, snow-free ground and drink from safe runoff streams.

The Midnight Lighthouse

Between the storm-shrouded northwestern coast and the dreaded Stormwing Island, there rises a single spire of twisted stone: the Midnight Lighthouse. It is a prison for the empire’s most wicked and condemned souls, surrounded by ceaseless stormy waves. Sailors claim that on nights of thunder, when the sea glows with lightning and ghostly wings sweep the sky, the lighthouse burns blue, its light pulsing in time with the ocean’s wrath.

Stormwing Island

Stormwing Island is a massive island to the northwest of the continent, roughly the same size as the whole province of Rommelen. Not much is known about the island, though it was charted by a hearty team of explorers and cartographers long ago.

How enormous reptiles thrive upon an island that is within a frozen part of the world still remains a mystery. Though it could be due to geothermal activity, as much of the island is shrouded in fog and smoke, with several fiery mountains somewhere within the interior.

While it is possible to be accessed by seafaring vessels, it is highly not recommended. Stormwing Island is the ancestral home of all the dragons in the world. Not only is it occupied by dragons, but by many unknown and mysterious beasts. Those who are stupid enough to walk upon the island seldom return, and if they do, they do not live for long as they seem to carry what is known as Dragon’s Miasma.
